China Arrival Card Guide

Upon arrival in China, most foreign travelers need to complete an Arrival Card (also called Landing Card or Entry Card). Some ports may offer electronic versions.

What is the Arrival Card?

A small form distributed on your flight or at the port of entry, used to record your entry information for immigration purposes. It's separate from the visa application.

Information Required

The card typically asks for:

  • Full Name: As it appears on your passport
  • Gender: Male / Female
  • Date of Birth: DD/MM/YYYY format
  • Nationality: Your country of citizenship
  • Passport Number: From your travel document
  • Visa Number: From your Chinese visa sticker (if applicable)
  • Flight/Train Number: The one you arrived on
  • Purpose of Visit: Tourism, business, study, etc.
  • Address in China: First hotel or residence address
  • Departure Date: When you plan to leave China

Tips

  • Many airlines distribute the card during the flight — fill it out before landing to save time
  • Write clearly in block letters (uppercase print)
  • Use black or blue pen
  • Keep the departure portion (if detachable) — you'll need it when leaving
  • The card is usually provided in both Chinese and English

Electronic Entry

Some major airports (Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou) now offer:

  • Self-service kiosks for eligible passport holders
  • E-channel automated border clearance (for pre-registered travelers)
  • Check eligibility at the immigration area

Important Reminders

  • Keep the departure stub safe — loss may cause delays at exit
  • If you lose the departure stub, report to the nearest Exit-Entry Administration office
  • The card is NOT a visa — you still need a proper visa or qualify for visa-free entry

Arrival procedures are subject to change. Follow the instructions from immigration officers at the port of entry.
